Mine Overview
The Clarke Limonite Mine is near Salisbury, Connecticut. Historically the site has been associated with the Connecticut Salisbury Iron Mining District which is now part of the Appalachian National Scenic Trail. The Clarke Limonite Mine was closed at the time of data entry with no known plans to re-open. Past operations took place in 1800s. The ore mined is composed of limonite. The ore body extends 274 meters (900 feet) in length. The Taconic Section of the Appalachian Highlands characterize the geomorphology of the surrounding area.
