The Pool Nickel Sulfide Mine is near Bantam, Connecticut. Historically the site has been part of the Mount Prospect Mining District. The Pool Nickel Sulfide Mine was closed at the time of data entry with no known plans to re-open. Past operations took place from 1835 to 1837. The ore mined is composed of pentlandite, pyrrhotite and pyrite with waste material consisting primarily of chlorite, quartz and apatite. Data from 1982 show the ore was formed by replacement processes of unknown dimensions. The mineralization at this location is from the Lower Devonian epoch 419.20 to 393.30 million years ago. The New England Upland Section of the Appalachian Highlands characterize the geomorphology of the surrounding area.
