Mine Overview
The Higley Copper Mine is near East Granby, Connecticut. Historically the site has been part of the Lower Connecticut Valley Mining District. The Higley Copper Mine was closed at the time of data entry with no known plans to re-open. Past operations took place from 1707 to 1767, 1830 to 1835. Production size when active was considered to be small. The ore mined is composed of malachite, azurite and bornite. Associated rock in this area is basalt from the Upper Triassic epoch 237.00 to 201.30 million years ago. The New England Upland Section of the Appalachian Highlands characterize the geomorphology of the surrounding area.
