Mine Overview
The Saint Elmo Mine is near Osburn, Idaho. Historically the site has been associated with the Coeur Dalene-Evolution Mining District which is now part of the St. Joe National Forest. The site was first discovered in 1892. The Saint Elmo Mine is a underground mining operation. Mine operations consist of underground workings. There is one known shaft. Subsurface length extends a maximum of 366 meters (1,200 feet). The host rock in this area is quartzite from the Neoproterozoic era 1.00 to 0.54 billion years ago. The Northern Rocky Mountains physiographic province of the Rocky Mountain System characterize the geomorphology of the surrounding area.
