Kelly Limonite Mine

The Kelly Limonite Mine is near Millerton, New York. Historically the site has been associated with the New York Salisbury Iron Mining District which is now part of the Appalachian National Scenic Trail. The Kelly Limonite Mine was closed at the time of data entry with no known plans to re-open. Past operations took place from 1880 to 1888. The ore mined is composed of limonite and goethite. The mineralization at this location is from the Holocene epoch 11,784 years ago to present. The Taconic Section of the Appalachian Highlands characterize the geomorphology of the surrounding area.
