Mine Overview
The Nickel Sulfide Prospect is near Bantam, Connecticut. Historically the site has been part of the Mount Prospect Mining District. The ore mined is composed of pyrite, pyrrhotite and chalcopyrite with waste material consisting primarily of olivine, hornblende and quartz. The mineralization at this location is from the Lower Devonian epoch 419.20 to 393.30 million years ago. The New England Upland Section of the Appalachian Highlands characterize the geomorphology of the surrounding area.
