The Hale-Walker Beryllium Prospect And Feldspar Mine is near Portland, Connecticut. Historically the site has been part of the Portland Mining District. The Hale-Walker Beryllium Prospect And Feldspar Mine was closed at the time of data entry with no known plans to re-open. The ore mined is composed of tantalite, monazite and feldspar with waste material consisting primarily of tourmaline, perthite and mica. The ore body extends 54 meters (179 feet) long and 2 meters (8 feet) thick. The host rock in this area is gneiss from the Lopingian epoch 259.80 to 252.17 million years ago. The New England Upland Section of the Appalachian Highlands characterize the geomorphology of the surrounding area.
